Structural retrofitting and strengthening
Structural retrofitting and strengthening means adding extra strength to a structure in addition to its existing strength. There are many reasons why structural strengthening is required. They are as follows:
The additional floor is required on an existing building.
The additional machine has to be placed on the existing structure.
Distress in structure due to Fire, Earthquake, corrosion,
etc.
Due to Mistakes in construction or structural designer
Changing in usage purpose. (For example, an existing warehouse to be used as a processing unit and a heavy crane to be added to the existing structure, which crane load was not considered previously.)
